Where did sand trout come from?
The sand trout evolved from a species native to the rivers of California’s Central Valley. Researchers theorize that the sand trout was a cross between a California rainbow trout and an Atlantic salmon, as many of the sand trout’s genes are similar to these species. Sand trout are a great choice for beginning fly fishermen because they are generally calm and unaggressive, especially around humans.
