Although, Finn was not the one who shot kurt he was to blame for Kurt’s death. Finn’s careless actions caused Kurt’s death and he knew it when he attempted to hit Kurt with his car. Kurt did not deserve to die for Finn’s mistake, but Finn made the decision to hit Kurt to protect Mercedes and Rachel. Finn knew that Kurt was in love with Mercedes and he was afraid that Mercedes would lose her boyfriend if he did not do something

finn s death is the first one we see in season 6. He was murdered in a high school bathroom after being drugged by Mercedes, who wanted to help him lose weight. Mercedes' plan backfired when drug-addled Finn ended up with a psychotic episode which made Mercedes confess to the crime. The good news is that Mercedes was sentenced to community service instead of jail time, so Finn didn’t die in vain.
